Climate Finance Innovators – Linking carbon markets with climate finance in Africa

The Climate Finance Innovators Publication intends to develop scalable climate financing models in Ethiopia, Senegal and Uganda and establish linkages with market mechanisms under the Paris Agreement as well as international financing institutions such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The publication’s partner countries have ambitious climate goals, long-term development pathways and play an active role in the international climate negotiations. All three countries provide important opportunities to develop integrated approaches for blending market mechanisms and climate finance to achieve their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).

The publication works with both government and private sector counterparts in each country to establish funding proposals that can scale up exiting mitigation actions. Moreover, capacity building support and conceptual work form a central part of the publication. Lessons learned in the process are channeled into the climate negotiations to help shape the design of Article 6 and other policy instruments under the Paris Agreement.

Climate Focus in collaboration with Perspectives Climate Group, AERA Group, Carbon Africa Limited, Afrique Energie Environnement (AEE) and South South North form the Climate Finance Innovators. The publication is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conversation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
