Areas of expertise

We develop and implement climate policies and interventions across sectors.

For over 20 years, we’ve worked across sectors – from forests and food systems to carbon markets and climate change negotiations.

We specialize in a range of topics.

International climate policy

Effective global climate action relies on coherent, aligned international policies. We support governments, organizations, and coalitions in navigating the ever-evolving international climate policy landscape and assess policy alignment with global goals. Our expertise spans climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, biodiversity planning, Article 6 mechanisms, and the international frameworks that govern them.

Carbon markets

Carbon markets can unlock critical finance for real climate action when designed well. We provide technical, legal and strategic guidance on carbon market mechanisms, from greenhouse gas accounting to developing carbon markets legal and frameworks. We support developers in ensuring their projects are financially viable and technically sound and investors in assessing risks of investing in projects while advising governments on developing frameworks to implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Forests & nature-based solutions

Forests and ecosystems are essential for storing carbon and supporting climate resilience. We analyze key forest policies, conduct spatial assessments, and track progress on forest commitments through coordinating The Forest Declaration Assessment. Our work aims to accelerate the protection and restoration of forests and other ecosystems, with expertise in supply chains, land tenure, benefit-sharing, and nature-based solutions.

Agriculture & food systems

A resilient future depends on reimagining how we grow, trade, and consume food. Our work focuses on transforming that system – integrating agriculture and food measures into national climate plans, identifying financing needs, and developing practical policy tools for governments. We connect food system transformation with broader goals for climate mitigation, adaptation, biodiversity, and sustainable land management.

Land rights & governance

A just climate transition depends on who has a voice and who has control over land and resources. Yet the voices of many groups – including Indigenous Peoples, local communities, smallholders, women, and young people – are often overlooked, despite being disproportionately affected by climate change. We have expertise on benefit-sharing mechanisms, inclusion of marginalized groups in countries’ climate planning, and governance frameworks that promote social equity.

Environmental claims & disclosure

In a landscape with growing sustainability claims and evolving regulations, clear reporting and verification are essential. We help clients – project developers, investors, and others – develop reporting frameworks, verify environmental impacts, and align communications with global standards like the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). We help ensure climate action is credible, transparent, and measurable.

Climate finance

Climate ambitions become action only when investment follows. We advise businesses and governments on low carbon investments and the deployment of mitigation and adaptation finance. Our expertise in a range of finance mechanisms – from green bonds to carbon credits to REDD+ results-based payments – always aims to direct capital toward the most impactful climate solutions.
