Andrés Melendro is a consultant at Climate Focus. Andrés is a senior professional working at the intersection of climate change and land use policy.

After a period working for Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has dedicated his career to mobilizing resources for mitigation initiatives through carbon markets. More particularly, he has specialized in the governance and implementation of forest conservation and restoration projects.

He has approached the climate crisis through two complementary approaches: climate advisory and project development. In the former, he has supported governments mainly in Latin America to set, implement, and finance their climate pledges, focusing on carbon pricing instruments. In the latter, he has worked in nature-based solutions project development, leading social consultations with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC) in Africa and Latin America. Andrés is also a university professor, teaching climate policy, and sustainability corporate strategies.

Andrés has a degree in Political Science and International Affairs and a Master’s in Sustainable Urban Development, both from Sciences Po Paris, and is fluent in English, French, Portuguese, in addition to his native Spanish. He is fond of long distance trekking, trail running, squash and baking.
