The second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (CP2) will come to an end on 31 December 2020, leaving the fate of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) uncertain. Countries will begin to implement their Nationally Determined Contributions and have begun negotiating a new rulebook under the Paris regime.
