Since 2007, REDD+ and NAMAs have developed quickly as new initiatives under the UN climate regime with significant potential for carbon emissions mitigation in forest, agriculture and other land use sectors in many developing countries. The study examines the two work streams both in the abstract and in the context of several Southeast Asian countries strategically important to land use carbon mitigation efforts. Emphasis is given to both clarifying the relationships of NAMAs and REDD+, and discussing how they may be harmonized so as to not allow for gaps or double counting of emissions reductions.
The report includes country studies on Indonesia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand, as well as recommended options for the focus countries and potentially other developing countries.
