Manuel is a senior land use consultant at Climate Focus. An eminent climate policy and land use expert, he has twenty years of experience, mainly working in Latin America. His core expertise centers on Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), and Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU). Manuel is currently based in Murcia, Spain.
Manuel has worked for many years on projects with Climate Focus, including the assessment of Ecuador’s and Colombia’s capacities to obtain results-based incentives under KfW’s REDD Early Movers Program, and on the design of Peru’s REDD+ registry. A former UNFCCC negotiator, he has been primarily involved in mitigation, carbon markets and REDD+ issues. He has also served as advisor to the Mexican government in the design of its financial architecture for REDD+ and regularly provides advice to other Latin American governments on climate change issues.
Manuel is currently a member of the Roster of Experts on Annex I inventories and National Communications of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his family, read, listen to music and take long walks.
Manuel holds a degree from the Escuela Bancaria y Comercial de México (BA in finance).
