Climate Focus advises easyJet on its strategy of becoming carbon-neutral

As of the 19 November 2019, carbon emissions from the fuel used by every single easyJet flight will be compensated for as part of the airline’s carbon neutrality initiative. Climate Focus is the technical adviser to the airline in regards to its offsetting strategy.

For now, this entails the selection of a combination of existing VCS and Gold Standard projects guaranteeing easyJet with a supply of high-quality credits that are additional and provide measurable environmental and sustainable development benefits.

Current projects include forestry, renewable energy, clean cooking and clean drinking water activities located in Africa, Asia and South America. In addition, Climate Focus will be supporting easyJet in the development of their own carbon projects going forward.

Carbon offsetting is only one aspect of the airline’s new initiative which also comprises developing and implementing a range of innovations to reduce the environmental impact of air travel. Presently, this includes investing in modern fuel-efficient planes, and in the future, working on the development of electric and hybrid planes through partnerships with Wright Electric, Airbus, Rolls Royce and Safran.
